Ravindra Jadeja broke Garfield Sobers’ record by scoring his sixth 50-plus innings in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy during the 5th Test.
Jadeja Breaks Sobers’ 59-Year-Old Record with Sixth Fifty in England

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja continued his stellar form in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy by registering his sixth 50-plus score of the series, breaking a 59-year-old record previously held by West Indies legend Garfield Sobers. Sobers had set the record for the most 50-plus scores by a visiting batter batting at No. 6 or lower in a series in England—a feat Jadeja surpassed on Day 3 of the fifth Test at The Oval.
Jadeja’s impactful 53 in India’s second innings helped set a challenging target of 374 for England on a difficult pitch. His six fifties in the series mark the most by any No. 6-or-lower batter in an England Test series, surpassing Sobers’ five in 1966.
Additionally, Jadeja set a new Indian record for the most 50-plus scores from No. 6 or below in a Test series, breaking VVS Laxman’s five from the 2002 West Indies tour. He also equaled the world record for most 50-plus scores at No. 6 or lower in an away Test series, joining two other players with six such innings.
Jadeja Joins Elite Company with Record-Breaking Series in England

Ravindra Jadeja’s extraordinary run in the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy has etched his name alongside cricketing legends. His sixth 50-plus score at No. 6 or lower in an away Test series places him in elite company with Gerry Alexander (1960/61) and Wasim Raja (1976/77), both of whom also achieved six such innings.
Jadeja’s consistent performances have resulted in his tenth 50-plus score in Tests in England batting at No. 6 or lower—the most by any visiting player, surpassing Garfield Sobers’ nine.
Additionally, Jadeja surpassed Sunil Gavaskar’s record for the most 50-plus scores by an Indian in a single series in England. Here’s the list of top Indian performers:
- 6 – Ravindra Jadeja (2025)
- 5 – Sunil Gavaskar (1979)
- 5 – Virat Kohli (2018)
- 5 – Rishabh Pant (2025)
Jadeja’s innings of 53 off 77 balls was his first dismissal in the second innings this series, having previously remained unbeaten with 25*, 69*, 61*, and 107*. He finished as India’s third-highest run-scorer in the series with 517 runs from five matches—a tally that ranks third all-time for runs scored at No. 6 or lower in an away Test series.
The world record for most runs in this batting position during an away series remains with Garfield Sobers, who scored 722 runs against England in 1966. The top performances are:
- 722 – Sir Garfield Sobers (WI) vs ENG, 1966
- 517 – Wasim Raja (PAK) vs WI, 1976/77
- 516 – Ravindra Jadeja (IND) vs ENG, 2025
- 506 – Steve Waugh (AUS) vs ENG, 1989
Jadeja’s remarkable series has firmly established him among the greats of the game.
