Pat Cummins and his team set a daunting target of 282 runs for the Temba Bavuma-led South African side in the final innings. After being dismissed for a duck in the first innings, Markram made an impressive comeback with a magnificent century in the second innings.
With valuable support from Bavuma, who scored a half-century, South Africa finished day 3 at 213 for 2. They now require just 69 more runs to seal the win. Virat Kohli, Earlier in the match, Bavuma won the toss and chose to bowl first. Australia posted 212 all out in their first innings, while South Africa were dismissed for 138. In response, Australia scored 207 all out in their second innings.

After Aiden Markram smashed a brilliant century in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 final, an old tweet by Virat Kohli from seven years ago went viral on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The tweet dates back to March 2018, during a Test match between South Africa and Australia, where Kohli praised Markram’s batting.
“Aiden Markram is a delight to watch!” Virat Kohli had written in the post. Interestingly, during that Cape Town Test in 2018, Markram was dismissed for a duck in the first innings. However, he bounced back in the second innings with a solid knock of 84 runs, playing a key role in South Africa’s commanding 322-run victory.
Virat Kohli: In that match, the Faf du Plessis-led South African team scored 311 runs in the first innings and bowled out Australia for 255. In the second innings, powered by Markram’s 84, South Africa posted 373, setting Australia a massive 430-run target. The Steve Smith-led Australian side crumbled under pressure and were bundled out for just 107 runs.
