After Aiden Markram smashed a brilliant century in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 final, an old tweet by Virat Kohli from seven years ago went viral on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The tweet dates back to March 2018, during a Test match between South Africa and Australia, where Kohli praised Markram’s batting.

“Aiden Markram is a delight to watch!” Virat Kohli had written in the post. Interestingly, during that Cape Town Test in 2018, Markram was dismissed for a duck in the first innings. However, he bounced back in the second innings with a solid knock of 84 runs, playing a key role in South Africa’s commanding 322-run victory.

Virat Kohli: In that match, the Faf du Plessis-led South African team scored 311 runs in the first innings and bowled out Australia for 255. In the second innings, powered by Markram’s 84, South Africa posted 373, setting Australia a massive 430-run target. The Steve Smith-led Australian side crumbled under pressure and were bundled out for just 107 runs.
