Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who last represented India in the ICC Champions Trophy in March 2025, are set to make their return to the national team. India spinner Axar Patel praised the two seasoned batters ahead of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia.
The series kicks off in Perth on October 19, followed by the second ODI in Adelaide on October 23, and concludes in Sydney on October 25. Cricket fans worldwide are eagerly anticipating Kohli and Rohit’s comeback as India faces Australia.
Their return comes amid ongoing speculation about their future in international cricket, including their potential involvement in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. Rumors have swirled ever since the duo retired from Test cricket earlier this year. The uncertainty intensified after Rohit Sharma was stripped of the ODI captaincy, with Shubman Gill taking over, leaving both players’ futures in the Men in Blue under close scrutiny.

“They are world-class players. They know what to do, and they are ready to go. They are true professionals, and their preparation has been excellent. Everyone has passed their fitness tests, and they’re eager to get started,” Axar told reporters.
He also highlighted the impact of having Rohit and Virat in the squad, saying their presence will be invaluable for Shubman Gill as he takes on a leadership role. The Indian team landed in Australia on Thursday morning and have already conducted two practice sessions at Perth’s Optus Stadium.
