Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have arrived in Australia ahead of the three-match ODI series against Australia, starting October 19 at Optus Stadium, Perth. The former India captain, Rohit, has been rigorously preparing for his international return, with much attention on his remarkable fitness transformation.
Rohit has shed several kilos and looks in top shape, having practiced recently alongside Abhishek Nayar in Mumbai. With the captaincy now behind him, the right-handed batter is eager to prove his form with the bat.
Nayar revealed that Rohit’s transformation was partly driven by criticism he faced after leaving Mumbai airport, where photos sparked trolling over his weight. “There were a lot of talks about him putting on weight and a few images of him coming out of the airport. So, it was about changing all of that and in a lot of ways to be healthier, faster and fitter,” Nayar explained.

Rohit won’t change
Nayar added that although Rohit Sharma no longer holds the captaincy, his approach remains unchanged—he will continue prioritizing the team’s interests and doing whatever is necessary for their success.
Over the past two years, Rohit has shifted focus from personal milestones to playing aggressive cricket at the top, ensuring the team gets a strong start during the powerplay. “Whether he’s captain or not, that will never change the way he plays for this team and for his teammates,” Nayar noted.
On Thursday, Rohit was seen batting alongside Virat Kohli during India’s first net session in Perth and having an intense discussion with head coach Gautam Gambhir. With speculation mounting about his future and potential inclusion in India’s 2027 ODI World Cup squad in South Africa, all eyes remain on the former skipper.
