“That’s why he was dropped” – Kris Srikkanth openly attributes Abhimanyu Easwaran’s West Indies Test omission to his father

Abhimanyu Easwaran, who was part of India’s squad for the England Test series, has been left out of the team for the upcoming West Indies series.

Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth expressed strong opinions regarding Easwaran’s exclusion, suggesting that remarks made by the batter’s father may have influenced the decision.

Kris Srikkanth:The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the squad for the two-match Test series against the West Indies. The first Test is scheduled at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad from October 2, followed by the second at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi starting October 10.

One of the notable absences in the squad is Abhimanyu Easwaran. He had been included in the team for the England series but did not get a chance to play in any of the five matches. Expectations were high for his inclusion in the home series against the West Indies.

Kris Srikkanth Suggests Abhimanyu Easwaran Dropped Possibly Due to Father’s Comments, But Acknowledges Agarkar’s Logic

Easwaran has often been regarded as one of India’s unluckiest cricketers. He received his maiden Test call-up in December 2022, for the Bangladesh tour but has struggled to secure a consistent place in the playing XI. Meanwhile, other players have been given opportunities, leading to criticism directed at the BCCI.

Following Easwaran’s lack of playing time during the England series, his father made candid remarks, questioning the team management’s decisions and claiming that IPL performances were being prioritized over Test selection.

Kris Srikkanth believes remarks made by Abhimanyu Easwaran’s father may have contributed to the batter being dropped from the team. While expressing sympathy for Easwaran, he also acknowledged Ajit Agarkar’s point about not requiring a reserve opener for home matches.

Kris Srikkanth: “I feel bad for Abhimanyu Easwaran. I think his father made some strong statements after the England series, and maybe that’s why he’s been dropped now. But Ajit Agarkar’s reasoning about not needing a reserve opener at home was fair,” Kris Srikkanth said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Easwaran has consistently been one of the top performers in the Indian domestic circuit. He will now be eager to shine in the upcoming domestic season and make a strong case for his return to the national side.
