India Tops Super Four Stage of Asia Cup 2025 After Thrilling Win Over Sri Lanka. India finished the Super Four stage of Asia Cup 2025 at the top of the table, remaining undefeated throughout. In a thrilling encounter at Dubai International Stadium on Friday, they edged past Sri Lanka in a nail-biting Super Over.
The Indian innings had a shaky start as Shubman Gill failed to make an impact yet again. However, Abhishek Sharma continued his stellar form, scoring 61 to notch his third consecutive half-century of the tournament. Despite Suryakumar Yadav struggling to settle, he and Abhishek put together a crucial 59-run partnership for the second wicket.
After their dismissals, Tilak Varma (49) and Sanju Samson (39) steadied the innings, ensuring India maintained momentum in the middle overs. The duo added 66 runs for the fourth wicket, putting Sri Lanka under pressure. Tilak batted through till the end, while Axar Patel (21) finished strongly, taking India to a total of 202 for five.
Sri Lanka’s reply started poorly with Kusal Mendis dismissed for a golden duck in the first over. Yet, Pathum Nissanka (107) and Kusal Perera (58) counterattacked, adding 127 runs for the second wicket and dominating the Indian bowlers. Despite wickets falling at the other end, Nissanka remained composed, hitting a sensational century.
With 12 needed off the final over, Harshit Rana held his nerve, dismissing Nissanka on the first ball and defending the remaining runs with clever variations, forcing the match into a Super Over.
In the Super Over, Arshdeep Singh was exceptional, conceding just two runs while picking two wickets. India chased the three-run target comfortably, heading into the final full of confidence.
