Vaibhav Suryavanshi Breaks Youth ODI Sixes Record in Style

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has set such lofty standards that even a strike rate of 102 feels underwhelming. During his 70-run knock in the second Youth ODI against Australia U19 at the Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane, his strike rate remained under a run-a-ball for most of the innings—like an F1 car stuck in Bengaluru traffic. Unlike his usual explosive style seen in India U19 and IPL outings, Vaibhav Suryavanshi took time to settle, with Australia’s new-ball bowlers keeping him quiet early on.

By the end of 10 overs, he was 20 off 38 balls with just two fours and a six. But once the fielding restrictions lifted, he shifted gears. Hayden Schiller suffered first, conceding two sixes and a four in the 12th over, followed by a straight six over long-off against John James. His fifth six came against Australia’s fastest bowler, Kasey Barton—also a record-breaking shot.

That maximum marked Suryavanshi’s 39th Youth ODI six, surpassing Unmukt Chand’s record of 38. What stood out was the speed at which he achieved it: Chand needed 21 innings, while Suryavanshi broke it in just 10, underlining his extraordinary power-hitting ability.

Suryavanshi Shines with Maiden Youth ODI Fifty in Australia

The 14-year-old dynamic batter from Bihat showcased his talent by hitting multiple boundaries and adding another six to his tally. He greeted Australia U19 captain Yash Deshmukh with a towering six over long-on, but the leg-spinner struck back quickly, dismissing him on the third ball of the over. Suryavanshi’s fine innings of 70 off 68 deliveries featured five fours and six sixes.

In the process, he registered his maiden half-century on Australian soil in Youth ODIs.

Yash Deshmukh also impressed with a composed 70 off 74 balls. However, after both he and Suryavanshi were dismissed, India’s innings briefly lost momentum. Much like the first match, Abhigyan Kundu stepped up with a brilliant 71 off 64 balls, helping India post a total of 300 in 49.4 overs.
