N Jagadeesan Set for Maiden India Call-Up as Rishabh Pant’s Replacement. Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batter N Jagadeesan is set to receive his first-ever call-up to the Indian Test squad. According to multiple media reports, he is expected to join the team for the final match of the five-Test series against England, starting July 31 at The Oval, as a replacement for the injured Rishabh Pant.
Pant has been ruled out after fracturing his right toe during the Manchester Test while attempting a reverse sweep against Chris Woakes. He was visibly in pain and had to be carried off the field. Despite bravely returning to bat with the injury on day two, his chances of playing the next match are virtually nil.
Initially, Ishan Kishan was expected to step in, but with him reportedly unavailable, N Jagadeesan has emerged as the top choice.
A consistent performer in the domestic circuit, N Jagadeesan has been among the best wicketkeeper-batters in recent years. His contributions, particularly in red-ball cricket, have played a vital role in Tamil Nadu’s success. His maiden India call-up is seen as a well-deserved reward for his outstanding performances and impressive statistics in the domestic arena.
N Jagadeesan’s First-Class Cricket Record

N Jagadeesan has featured in 52 First-Class matches, amassing 3,373 runs at an impressive average of 47.50. His tally includes 10 centuries and 14 half-centuries, highlighting his consistency and ability to play big innings.
In the previous Ranji Trophy season, N Jagadeesan showcased his consistency by scoring 674 runs in eight matches at an average of 56.16, including two centuries and five half-centuries. He finished as the top run-scorer for his team.
However, even if he is picked for the final Test, his chances of debuting remain slim, as Dhruv Jurel is expected to retain his spot as the first-choice wicketkeeper for the Oval Test.
