Multiple images of Indian actor Ajay Devgn meeting Shahid Afridi are circulating on social media. Here’s the real story behind them.
Ajay Devgn Faces Backlash After WCL India-Pakistan Match Cancellation

The World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 organisers are facing intense criticism after the India vs Pakistan clash, scheduled for July 20 at Edgbaston, Birmingham, was cancelled due to public outrage. Fans on social media condemned the participation of former Indian cricketers in the match, citing the recent Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.
Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn, a co-owner of the T20 tournament, has now come under fire as well. Fans are furious over his alleged interaction with Pakistan Champions’ Shahid Afridi, who had made derogatory remarks about the Indian Army earlier this year. The backlash continues to escalate, despite the match being called off.

What’s the truth behind these viral images?

Yes, Ajay Devgn did meet and chat with Shahid Afridi, but it wasn’t during WCL 2025. Their interaction actually took place last year during the inaugural edition of the tournament, when Devgn visited Edgbaston to witness the event in person.

Several former Indian cricketers, including Shikhar Dhawan, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, and Suresh Raina, withdrew from the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan match on the eve of the contest. Dhawan clarified that he had informed organisers about his non-participation as early as May 11.
Following public outrage, the organisers officially cancelled the match on Sunday morning and issued an apology, stating, “We sincerely apologise again for hurting the sentiments and hope people will understand that all we ever wanted was to bring a few happy moments to the fans.”
The 2025 edition of WCL began on July 18 with the England Champions facing Pakistan Champions. India Champions are set to play South Africa Champions on Tuesday, July 21.
