Rahul has perhaps been the most reliable batsman in the series so far. His ability to leave the ball well and play for long periods has helped him perform well in English conditions.
Coming to England as the most senior specialist batsman in the young Indian squad, he knew he had to perform well. And he has done so in a brilliant manner, scoring 42, 137, 2, 55 and 100 in the series so far, and has hardly lost his concentration, which has been his failing in the past.
Worked with F1 coaches: KL Rahul
“I did mental exercises with an expert to improve my reaction time. I have seen it in Formula One. Worked with coaches who work with F1 and adventure sports. That is the only thing that has been different. I always enjoy batting for long periods. I have tried to maintain consistency throughout my career. I am happy that the performance is improving now,” Rahul said in the press conference after the third day.
He further said, “I have always enjoyed batting for long periods since childhood. Even when I used to play junior cricket, I enjoyed batting for long periods and I was able to concentrate for a long time. I think all these things have helped me in the last few years. I have tried throughout my career to perform consistently and play well. So I am happy that my performance has been good in the last few years.”
