Reports: Yashasvi Jaiswal Likely to Be Dropped from Slip Cordon for Second Test Against England Following Sloppy Fielding in Series Opener

Yashasvi Jaiswal Drops Four Catches in First IND vs ENG Test at Leeds. Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has come under heavy criticism following his fielding performance in the opening Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. The match ended in a convincing win for the hosts, exposing several flaws in India’s fielding effort.

A key factor in India’s defeat was their poor catching, with the team collectively dropping around 10 chances across both innings. Among the most notable was Yashasvi Jaiswal, who put down four crucial catches, significantly impacting the game’s outcome.

One of the most costly errors came when Jaiswal dropped Ben Duckett, who went on to play a match-winning knock of 149 in the second innings, helping England chase down a challenging target of 371 runs with five wickets to spare.

Initially fielding in the gully, Jaiswal missed multiple chances and was later moved to the deep. However, the change failed to yield better results, as he continued to display a lack of sharpness in the outfield as well.

Karun Nair, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Nitish Kumar Reddy to Form India’s New Slip Cordon for Second Test Against England

Following heavy criticism over his fielding performance in Leeds, Yashasvi Jaiswal appears to have been sidelined from India’s slip cordon. According to a report by RevSportz, the Indian team management is set to introduce a revamped slip setup for the second Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Just two days before the match, Karun Nair, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Nitish Kumar Reddy were spotted rigorously training in the slips. If the reports hold true, Nitish Kumar Reddy is likely to replace Jaiswal in the cordon, marking a notable shift in the team’s fielding strategy.

Yashasvi Jaiswal made a stunning impression with the bat in his debut Test match in England, scoring a brilliant century with 101 runs in the first innings. However, he couldn’t replicate that form in the second innings and failed to leave a significant impact.

The second Test between England and India is set to begin on July 2 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. After a five-wicket defeat in the opening match, India will be eager to bounce back strongly and level the series.
