Sri Lanka: The defending WTC champions South Africa are yet to start their campaign in the new cycle

The World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle has started with many series in world cricket. On one hand, the Test series is being played between England and India, while on the other hand Sri Lanka and Australia have started this cycle with a spectacular win.

Sri Lanka hosted a two-match Test series with Bangladesh, which started in Galle, where the match was drawn. Both teams earned four points each. However, in the second Test in Colombo, the hosts dominated with a five-wicket haul from Prabhat Jayasuriya to win by an innings and 78 runs. Sri Lanka also secured their first WTC points with a 1-0 win in the series.

Australia made a great start to their campaign

On the other hand, Australia made a great start to their World Test Championship campaign by defeating West Indies within three days in the first Test in Barbados on 27 June. Josh Hazlewood played a key role in Australia’s 159-run win by taking five wickets in the second innings. Apart from this, India lost by 5 wickets in the first Test match of the five-match series played against England at Headingley in Leeds.

The second Test match between England and India will start on July 2 at Edgbaston, while the second Test match of the three-match series between West Indies and Australia will be played in Grenada on July 3.

Current WTC champions South Africa have not yet started their campaign in the new cycle. On the other hand, 2021 champions New Zealand and Pakistan are also to play their first series in the 2025-27 cycle. Due to this, their account has not been opened in the points table.
