Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has called for the inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav in the playing XI for the second Test of the five-match series against England. Gavaskar suggested that the wrist-spinner should replace Shardul Thakur, adding that Washington Sundar could also play a key role in the series.

Despite strong performances from the top order in both innings, India suffered a five-wicket defeat in the opening Test at Headingley, Leeds. Sunil Gavaskar The loss largely came down to an underwhelming bowling effort, with Jasprit Bumrah being the only standout performer. England’s batters dominated, and India’s bowling attack struggled to defend totals of 471 and 364.

As the team gears up for the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham, the management is likely considering changes to strengthen the bowling unit. With Bumrah needing more support, the inclusion of Kuldeep and Sundar could provide the variety and control India lacked in the first game.

Sunil Gavaskar Backs Kuldeep Yadav’s Inclusion, Suggests Resting Shardul Thakur

Legendary cricketer and commentator Sunil Gavaskar believes it’s time for India to bring Kuldeep Yadav into the playing XI. During his appearance on Sony Six after the ENG vs IND Test match, Gavaskar stated that Shardul Thakur should make way for Kuldeep in the next game.

“Sunil Gavaskar Regardless of whether Jasprit Bumrah is available or not, I feel Kuldeep Yadav must be included. I’d bring him in place of Shardul Thakur, especially considering the conditions in Birmingham, which could offer some assistance to a wrist-spinner,” Gavaskar explained.

He further noted that if Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair don’t deliver in the second Test, India should consider bringing in Washington Sundar to strengthen both batting and bowling options.

“If things don’t go well for Sai (Sudharsan) and Karun (Nair) in the second Test — not that I’m looking to drop them immediately — I’d consider bringing in Washington (Sundar) to provide more depth in batting and offer variation in the bowling attack,” he concluded.
