Rahul Dravid Expresses Heartbreak Over Bengaluru Stampede During RCB Celebration

Former India captain Rahul Dravid was left “heartbroken” and “disappointed” after a tragic stampede occurred outside Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4 during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL trophy celebration. The event marked RCB’s maiden IPL title win on June 3, attracting over 2.5 lakh fans eager to celebrate with their favorite players. Unfortunately, the massive crowd led to a stampede that resulted in 11 deaths and more than 50 injuries.
Speaking to NDTV, Rahul Dravid, who hails from Bengaluru, expressed his deep sorrow over the incident. He highlighted the city’s passion for sports, not just cricket but football and kabaddi as well, making the tragedy even more heartbreaking. Dravid extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. He stressed that such a tragedy should never have happened and called for better safety measures during large public gatherings.
Karnataka HC denies interim relief to RCB official

Following the tragic stampede outside Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium, A Shankar and E S Jairam resigned from their roles as secretary and treasurer of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), accepting “moral responsibility” for the incident. Meanwhile, Nikhil Sosale, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s marketing head, was arrested on June 6 in connection with the event. Sosale challenged the legality of his arrest in court, alleging political interference in the police action. However, the Karnataka High Court denied him interim relief. Earlier, the court had also restrained officials from taking coercive action against RCB and event partner DNA Entertainment Pvt Ltd until June 12, giving some temporary protection amid ongoing investigations. The resignations and legal proceedings highlight the serious repercussions following the stampede tragedy during the IPL celebration.
