Alick Athanaze: Roston Chase to Lead West Indies in Test Series Against India. The West Indies Cricket Team announced their squad for the upcoming two-match Test series in India on Monday, 16th September. Cricket West Indies (CWI) has named a 15-member squad for the series, with Roston Chase appointed as captain.
The squad sees the return of Alick Athanaze and Tagenarine Chanderpaul. Athanaze last featured in a Test against Pakistan in January this year, while Chanderpaul’s most recent appearance was against Australia in January 2024. Left-arm spinner Khary Pierre has earned his maiden call-up to the Test side.
In a surprise move, former captain Kraigg Brathwaite has been omitted from the squad. Keacy Carty, Johann Layne, and Mikyle Louis, all of whom played in the previous Test series against Australia, have also been dropped. Senior spinner Gudakesh Motie has been rested for the tour.

Alick Athanaze added for spin proficiency:
West Indies coach Daren Sammy confirmed that Alick Athanaze has been included in the squad for his effectiveness against spin bowling. Sammy also expressed confidence in the return of Tagenarine Chanderpaul to bolster the team’s top-order batting.
“Tagenarine Chanderpaul returns to help improve our fortunes at the top of the order after recent struggles, while Alick Athanaze brings valuable strengths against spin. Khary Pierre has been included as our second spinner, which we expect to be useful in the conditions,” Sammy said.
Series Overview:
West Indies and India will face off in a two-match Test series, marking the West Indies’ first Test tour of India since 2018. The series forms part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27.

- 2nd Test: October 10–14, Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi
This will be the second series for both sides in the WTC 2025-27 cycle. India’s previous Test series against England ended in a 2-2 draw, giving them a win percentage of 46.67% and the third position on the WTC points table. West Indies are currently sixth, with a win percentage of 0%, having lost their last Test series against Australia 3-0.
