ENG vs IND: Will Jasprit Bumrah feature in the 3rd Test at Lord’s? Captain Shubman Gill shares his thoughts

Jasprit Bumrah was rested for the second England vs India Test, with Akash Deep coming into the Indian playing XI.

The Indian team surprised many with their selection for the ongoing second Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The management decided to give ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah a break to manage his workload for the remainder of the series.

Bumrah, who is slated to play only three of the five Tests against England, was influential in the first match. He took a five-wicket haul in the first innings and maintained pressure in the second innings, despite not taking any wickets.

Given the more than a week-long gap between matches, many expected Jasprit Bumrah to feature in the second Test. The team management also confirmed that he was fully fit and that the final decision would depend on the pitch conditions.

However, on match day, Jasprit Bumrah was rested and Akash Deep was named in the XI. Even captain Shubman Gill acknowledged at the toss that Jasprit Bumrah was fit to play, a statement that sparked criticism from fans and experts who questioned the team management’s decision.

Jasprit Bumrah Expected to Play Third Test Against England at Lord’s

After Jasprit Bumrah was rested for the second Test against England, there has been much speculation about his participation in the third Test, scheduled to be played at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London starting July 10th. India’s captain, Shubman Gill, confirmed that the team is keen to have their fast bowler fully fit for the crucial match.

Speaking at the toss, Gill explained that Jasprit Bumrah was rested in the second Test to manage his workload, especially given the bowling-friendly conditions expected at Lord’s. He said:

“No Bumrah for this match. We wanted to manage his workload since we got a good break. The third Test at Lord’s is important, and we believe the pitch there will offer more assistance to bowlers, so we plan to utilize him then.”

India’s bowling attack has looked vulnerable so far in the series. Having struggled with the ball in the first Test and missing Jasprit Bumrah in this one, the team faces a significant challenge ahead.
