Ben Duckett played a crucial role in England’s victory over India in the first Test at Headingley, scoring 62 runs in the first innings and an impressive 149 in the second. Following this standout performance, former England captain Michael Vaughan heaped praise on Duckett, calling him the “best all-format player in the world” at present. England secured a five-wicket win largely thanks to Duckett’s contributions with the bat.
However, former India opener Aakash Chopra offered a contrasting perspective on Vaughan’s remarks. While acknowledging Duckett’s talent, Chopra pointed out that the England batsman has yet to consistently perform in key cricketing nations like India, South Africa, and Australia.
“I agree that among current players who participate in all three formats, Duckett stands out. His stats over the past two years have been impressive across formats. But there is a caveat — he hasn’t played Test cricket in Australia, has only three innings in South Africa, and his record in India has been limited,” Chopra explained on his YouTube channel.
Aakash Chopra Chooses Travis Head Over Ben Duckett as the Best All-Format Batter

“Aakash Chopra Maybe Duckett has done well in Pakistan, but his performances elsewhere haven’t been as consistent. It’s not a clear-cut case. Travis Head, on the other hand, has been excellent in all formats over the last couple of years,” Chopra said.
“He has a talent for delivering in big matches. Aakash Chopra Just look at the 2023 WTC final and the 2023 ODI World Cup final — if you compare them head-to-head, their stats are similar. But in my view, Travis Head holds a slight edge,” he added.
Chopra also praised India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has established himself as a strong contender across all three formats.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has the potential to play all formats, hasn’t yet played ODIs and has had limited opportunities in T20Is. Aakash Chopra Given his ability across formats, he could challenge the current dominance. For ‘Bazball,’ there could be ‘Jaisball,’” Chopra concluded on his YouTube channel.
