Former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar has backed Indian Test captain and all-format star Shubman Gill to break Rohit Sharma\u2019s record for the highest individual score in ODIs, which stands at 264 runs. <\/a>Bangar said the young opener could achieve this if he batted for 45-46 overs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShubman Gill has already scored a double hundred in one-day cricket, so he knows how to handle it. If he bats 45-46 overs, I think he can break the record,\u201d Bangar said on a Doordarshan show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gill has amassed 2,755 runs in 55 ODIs at an impressive average of 59.04, including eight centuries and 15 fifties, with a career-best 208 against New Zealand in early 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rohit Sharma: <\/strong>That 208 came while opening the innings in Hyderabad, where Gill faced just 149 balls, hitting 19 fours and nine sixes, reaching the milestone in 48.3 overs. With this feat, he joined an elite list of Indians\u2014Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, and Ishan Kishan\u2014to have scored double centuries in ODIs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bangar also expressed confidence that Abhishek Sharma could surpass Yuvraj Singh\u2019s record for the fastest T20I<\/a> fifty by an Indian. Singh had reached his fifty in 12 balls against England during the 2007 T20 World Cup in Cape Town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe is my student, and he hits sixes in the same aggressive style,\u201d Bangar explained.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abhishek has scored 849 runs in 24 T20Is (23 innings) at an average of 36.91 and a strike rate of 196.07. He has two centuries and five fifties, with a best performance of 135 off 54 balls against England at Wankhede Stadium earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
