Alick Athanaze: Roston Chase to Lead West Indies in Test Series Against India. The West Indies Cricket Team announced their squad for the upcoming two-match Test series in India on Monday, 16th September.<\/a> Cricket West Indies (CWI) has named a 15-member squad for the series, with Roston Chase appointed as captain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The squad sees the return of Alick Athanaze and Tagenarine Chanderpaul. Athanaze last featured in a Test against Pakistan in January this year, while Chanderpaul\u2019s most recent appearance was against Australia in January 2024. Left-arm spinner Khary Pierre has earned his maiden call-up to the Test side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a surprise move, former captain Kraigg Brathwaite has been omitted from the squad. Keacy Carty, Johann Layne, and Mikyle Louis, all of whom played in the previous Test series against Australia, have also been dropped. Senior spinner Gudakesh Motie has been rested for the tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

West Indies coach Daren Sammy confirmed that Alick Athanaze has been included in the squad for his effectiveness against spin bowling. <\/a>Sammy also expressed confidence in the return of Tagenarine Chanderpaul to bolster the team\u2019s top-order batting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTagenarine Chanderpaul returns to help improve our fortunes at the top of the order after recent struggles, while Alick Athanaze brings valuable strengths against spin. Khary Pierre has been included as our second spinner, which we expect to be useful in the conditions,\u201d Sammy said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
